How to log in

The recovery key, live

Chat in Rhaetix is end-to-end encrypted: messages are encrypted on your device, and the server cannot read them. That also means the server cannot restore them for you. For encrypted history there is no “forgot password”. What there is instead is a recovery key.

Every demo persona is bootstrapped with the same published key. Copy it before you start:

The demo asks you to verify Every browser that opens the demo counts as a fresh device, so chat greets you with “Verify this device”, or a channel sits there saying it is waiting for keys.
Paste the recovery key Put the key above into the prompt. It never leaves your browser: it unlocks the key backup stored on the server, which the server itself can never read.
History decrypts, device verified The channels fill in with their past messages, and the device is marked verified for everyone else in the workspace. That is the real feature, not a demo shortcut.

Why publish a key at all? Demo accounts are shared. Without one fixed key, two people exploring at the same time would each reset the other’s key backup, and both would be left staring at history nobody can decrypt.

Because this key is published, demo chat is not private. In a real deployment your key is generated once, shown once, and held only by you.

That end-to-end encryption covers chat. Documents, drive and mail are encrypted at rest with keys the server holds: real protection against a stolen disk or backup, but not end-to-end encryption, and we never call it that.

In a real workspace the key is shown exactly once. Put it in your password manager. No key at hand? A device you are already signed in on can verify the new one instead, by comparing seven emoji.
